This should be an easy day at 250 miles from Memphis to Bowling Green.

The hard part is to stay on the speed limit in the first 50 miles since Mike warned me to not speed through the first few towns of Brownville and Humboldt - small southern towns, local cops. The rain lets off 80 miles in near Humboldt, TN. The one good thing about the rain is the cooling effect. The humidity is gone and there is actually a light chill breeze in the air.

The remaining 175 miles is pretty uneventful - some nice back country southern roads. But the highlight is seeing my friend Carrie. We met around ten years ago back at the Maine Media Workshop where I was teaching workshops and she was a photographer for the summer. We've stayed in touch since and managed to see each other only a few times since then. But give that we're both in the South, we should be seeing each other more.

I get into town late afternoon. They have a busy schedule with two kids, school schedules, a dog, two cats, work and sports practices. So I'm grateful that they took time out of their schedule to have me stay over for a couple nights. We hung out, took the kids to practices, I went into Carrie's school (WKU) and spoke to her journalism and media students, got tacos and just catching up. Let's hope it won't be another five years until I see them again.
