After almost running out of gas, Ken and I fueled up and continued on to Thunder Bay. 187 Miles of the Trans-Canada Highway along the southern coast of Ontario gave us scenery of woods, bays and occasionally Lake Superior. The destination here is the Terry Fox Memorial on the outskirts of Thunder Bay.

Terry Fox is a Canadian national hero. He was a high school and college athlete who lost his leg to cancer in 1977. In 1980, with the hope of raising $24 million dollars for cancer research, $1 per Canadian citizen, Terry started to run the Marathon of Hope, a cross country run across Canada. He began with little fanfare from St John's, Newfoundland and Labrador and ran the equivalent of a full marathon every day. Terry had become a national hero by the time he reached Ontario. He was forced to stop his run outside of Thunder Bay when his cancer had return and spread to his lungs. This hill is now where his memorial sits.

Terry Fox died nine months later. Here's a documentary on Terry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtrUHkACvO4
