I was really looking forward to seeing my friend in Salt Lake City. Adam is someone I've known since high school. He lived in DC for quite some time and like myself, got tired of the city and wanted to be in a place that offered more opportunities to do what he enjoyed, namely anything outdoors ie. hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and rock climbing. And staying with Adam meant that I could stay put at one place for a while, get my bike serviced and just rest up. Plus I've been curious about SLC for a while now so I finally get a chance to explore.

It was going to be a 5 hour ride and about 270 miles route.

It was a pretty typical backroad route. I saw a lot of small Wyoming towns with the mountains in the background. I love seeing the country through these small towns. It's a great way to see what America (and Canada) is really like. After 150 miles, I cross into Utah.

The road was pretty uneventful until I started to climb Monte Cristo Peak. Then the road started to twist and turn up the mountain and I saw lots of sign signaling wildlife and deer crossing. The heat backed off as I climbed the fun 40 miles twisty stretch. The colder air was a welcomed relief from the heat but the heat would return when I went back down the valley and into Salt Lake City limits. An hours of city roads and traffic finally got me into Midvale where Adam lives. It was great to see him, unload the bike and stay put for the next few days and explore SLC.
