The ride to Fort Nelson was a decent stretch at 242 miles.

Up and up the Alaska Highway we go. Not much to report. 2 lanes, mostly trees on both sides. Fueling up whenever I could. The gas stations are a bit further than normal now but still within reasonable distances. Nothing further than 100-120KM, which is basically 60-75 miles.

I got to Fort Nelson and let's just say that there's even less here than Fort St. John. I was hungry and found a local donair joint. It was good (and expensive like all things up here). After my donair, I looked around - it was Sunday and with nothing much here and open, it was an easy decision to keep moving. The next stop on my itinerary would be Watson Lake. That's a six hour ride at 313 miles away on top of the 242 miles I've already ridden today. Watson Lake is a tiny community in the Yukon with not a lot of lodging.

I would need to find a motel first before I make the trek. I googled a few places and called a unique motel called the Air Force Lodge. A guy named Mike with a heavy German accent answered. He did have a single room available for $115 CAD. I took it. He told me to make sure to be careful because the Alaska Highway goes thru Stone Mountain Provincial Park and there are lots of big animals there. I've already seen moose, bears and caribous, what else is there?

I mentally prepared myself for the six hour ride which would put me into town around 11pm. At least there will still be daylight at that time up here. It's strange getting used to almost 24hr daylight up here.
