I left Alex's house in the morning to meet Matt for breakfast in town. Matt is someone that answered my Facebook post months ago about routes and places to visit for this trip. He's Canadian by birth but has lived all over Canada and NW US for years. He gave me tons of options and advice on which roads to take and where to visit. We've kept in touch on FB over the past few months. In fact, the sole reason I'm in Bonners Ferry is because that's where he lives and I've always heard about how beautiful Idaho is so any opportunity to check it out is a welcomed one.

He's got a few bikes but he shows up on his 1200GS with a Gasden flag - not a very common combination for a GS. We meet at the local diner and while we're meeting for the first time, it's like we've met up for breakfast many times before. We chat about the parts of Canada that I've visited and his nostalgia for his home land and the state that it is currently in. He insists on buying breakfast and we ride out of town for a while until he has to turn off the highway to head home. I didn't get to take a photo of us together but he's a friendly and gracious person. I hope to meet up with him again.

While I am only covering approximately 240 miles today, the heatwave makes it feel like twice the miles.

160 miles south and I reach Moscow, Idaho. I stop into a Sonic to get a sugary but ice cold fruit slushy drink. I caught up with my friend Tim on the phone for a bit and then continued on.

Another 30 miles south east and I reach the Nez Perce reservation. This is where I pick up ID-12 east on the Northwest Passage Scenic Byway, The byway runs alongside the Clearwater River. The byway follows the path Lewis and Clark took through north-central Idaho.

I'll be continuing east on US 12 along the Clearwater River and the Lochsa River into Kamiah. I'm spending a night in a motel in Kamiah before hitting up the Lolo Pass the next day into Missoula, Montana, a town that first introduced me into this part of the country.
