Once I got into Creston, it was just a short 8 miles to the border at Porthill, Idaho. I saw a sign that this border station closes at 5PM! It's now 4:40PM! I should be able to ride the 8 miles to the border before they close. However, I did open the throttle a little more than usual to make sure I got there in time. I got to the border with about ten minutes to spare.

The border agent come out of the booth, I gave him my passport, he walked around the bike. We chatted a few minutes about the station closing at 5pm. Apparently there another border crossing not too much away that's open 24 hours. With that, he gives my passport back and I'm officially back in the lower 48.

30 further miles south and I enter Bonners Ferry. I have a Bunk-a-Biker stay with Alex. She has a beautiful home with three Harleys in the garage between her and her husband. One of her Harley has over 100k miles all ridden by Alex herself. Alex was gracious and hospitable. They have a comfortable bedroom and private bath in the basement, a hot shower and pizza waiting for me. We chatted a bunch and showed me the two trailers that she uses on her long trips. They're made of fiber glass and super light and she can carry a ton of gear in them. Something to think about down the road.
