Continuing on my fast track home, it's another travel day - 430 miles from Alpine to San Marcos, TX where I am bunking with Laura, another BaB host.

Another scorching hot day that includes frequent stops at gas stations to hydrate with Gatorade and Icee slushies. Not the best to keep pumping sugary drinks into my system but those frozen drinks do cool you down fast.

Around 7pm, I get into San Marcos. I had no idea what to expect since I've never heard of San Marcos but it's actually a small city where Texas State University is located. With a population of 60k people, it's got all the city amenities that anyone would need, including Whataburger, the local fast food joint where I picked up my dinner.

I got to Laura's place about 15 miles outside of town. I turn down her street and arrive at a metal gate painted in the color scheme of the Texas flag. I punch in the code that she texted me and the gate slides open. I ride up the short driveway into her compound.

The building on the far left is the garage that houses Laura and her boyfriend's six bikes. And the main structure is a two story building where Laura lives and in front is a one story building which is a former office turned guest bedroom and bathroom. The guest bedroom is tastefully decorated in a perfect Southwest style.

Laura gives me a tour of her property on her side-by. She has eight acres that houses chickens, goats, bees and wild deer guests. This is the perfect property - large enough and far enough from downtown but it's literally a 15 minute drive into town for anything that one would need. A quick stay at Laura's and the next day I'm heading to Lockhart, the BBQ capital of Texas.
